Every year the “colour of the year ” is announced and the fashion houses trend to this colour. Last year the colour was a fuchsia pink and the year before a grey-blue. Like many of us, watching fashion trends has always been a wonderful hobby since I was a teenager, and then it became part of my business needs as Dig It® grew. The colours are picked months ahead of time for fashion houses to create their designs for the upcoming seasons ahead and then manufacturers source the materials necessary to produce them.
I was so happy to see that the trending colour this upcoming winter is a sunshine yellow and a complementary gray.
As quoted in a manufacturing trade journal I frequently read, The Sourcing Journal quotes, “The colour specialist announced Wednesday that it has selected a duo of colours, Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating, as the Pantone Color of the Year for 2021. Described as two independent colours that come together to create an ‘aspirational colour pairing,’ the colours express feelings of cautious optimism for 2021, it said.”
Just the fact that a yellow was chosen as the trending colour for winter 2021/22 made me feel hopeful and “brighter.”
While I think “perseverance” may have been the word of the year last year while the world struggled with the global pandemic and its compounding consequences to all our lives, I like to think this year’s word is “optimism.” I’m a firm believer in the words we use contribute to our thoughts and feelings, so I am personally and consciously adopting the word “optimism” into my regular vocabulary.
International Women’s Day is today. This years’ theme is #ChooseToChallenge.
“A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.”
“It’s less than a month from the official date of Spring, and I’m optimistically looking forward to what 2021 brings”…see, just like that.
To everyone reading this, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with sunshine yellow and choose positive, hopeful and optimistic thoughts to carry you into this year.
